Back in 2024, right as the AI boom was shaping the product world, eTeacher's Product Manager and I teamed up to introduce a game-changing feature: an new AI Tutor named Rosie. And that’s where the real fun began!

The challenge was creating a single design language versatile enough to visually engage a 10-year-old child learning a language, and a 60-year-old priest studying Biblical Hebrew. The platform operates several different schools for various fields of study.

Let There Be Colors
I needed to create a visual language for the AI tutor that feels consistent with the existing brand yet distinct. I took the brand’s primary blue and blended it with their purple (which is associated with AI systems) to create a gradient. This adds a fun vibe to the learning atmosphere and signals a shift in mood for free practice.

The Birth of Rosie
It all started with Rosie. While the internal AI team developed the characters' personalities and assets, the UX challenge was designing with the future in mind. I focused on architecting a highly scalable component system to ensure seamless integration of these new AI personalities. As the project evolved, this structural flexibility allowed us to smoothly bring the rest of the characters to life within the platform.

The Art of
Attracting Users
Introducing users to new features requires a delicate balance, it needs to be slightly disruptive to the regular flow to catch the eye, but not so much that it becomes annoying. It must be inviting enough to encourage users to click and explore something they didn’t even know they needed. Here, I wanted to showcase how we seamlessly integrated this new feature into an existing system.

HOW WE made OUR USERS FALL IN LOVE
I believe one of the most important things for learners (especially younger ones) is building an emotional connection. To drive that curiosity, I designed a custom set of assets in Illustrator and animated them in After Effects. These interactive rollover animations serve as a powerful tool to grab attention, enrich hover states, and get users excited to click and practice.

Designing for Behavioral Loop
Long-term learning requires sustained motivation, but it also demands flexibility. Since this is an optional practice space, I designed a non-linear carousel rather than a rigid progress bar. It gives students the option to replay past tasks or skip between freshly unlocked units (which can open in pairs), while using visual cues like displaying the total 30 milestones for motivation and orientation, and highlighting unit 4 as the newest active challenge - to maintain a clear sense of progression.

Yalla, start practice
One of the most engaging exercises I designed is the voice practice for words and sentences. My goal was to keep the experience as clear and visual as possible. One of the key features is the Usage Tip, which helps students understand how to integrate slang and specific words into everyday conversation. Providing this context accelerates the student’s ability to grasp the nuances of a new language in a fun and practical way.
